It was a pleasure to attend the West Midlands National Apprenticeship Awards yesterday where our Chief Operating Officer, Tom Bartlett, won Rising Star of the Year 2022 in the West Midlands region.
The awards were independently judged based on nominations. The judges said “The nominee has a bright future ahead of them with multiple promotions under their belt already and ambitious career goals. They have demonstrated a clear, rational, role within the workplace to impact their business positively.”
So, when I asked Tom, what advice he would give to others that started out in his position, he said:
“My advice would be to not get carried away, grab every opportunity that presents itself and remember that you are on your own journey so not to compare yourself with others. I’d suggest that you surround yourselves with good people to ensure you remain open-minded, take on board constructive criticism which is crucial to your development and remember that your career is a long-term project therefore it’s okay to not make huge leaps all the time.”
Tom started at Crosby back in 2016 as an HR Apprentice, he then went on to support his own team of apprentices including Accounts, Auditing and Marketing apprentices. Following his role as the Central Team Manager, he was most recently appointed as Chief Operating Officer. Since starting his Level 7 Senior Leader (MBA) Apprenticeship back in December 2020, Tom has been fundamental in so many large, and exciting, opportunities at Crosby – including being our excellent Ofsted nominee! He’s also been the foundation of knowledge when Crosby recently invested and implemented our new Learner Management System, Bud. Tom’s level of quality and thoroughness is so spectacular, this is reflected in every ounce of his work.
Crosby’s Chief Executive Officer, Paul Cadman said:
Many congratulations to our very own Apprentice Rising Star Thomas Bartlett, COO at CROSBY MANAGEMENT TRAINING LTD. Tom is a very deserving recipient and a real apprentice success story: he could have gone to a leading University with his A Level grades but chose an apprenticeship! He’s now 25, is an Assoc.CIPD and within 6 months will be a Chartered Manager with an MBA from Aston University. Well done Tom, we’re all very proud of you ????????
We’d also like to give a very big well done to our Level 7 Senior People Professional apprentice, Lauren Carroll from Mitchell’s and Butlers, who won Degree Apprentice of the Year for the West Midlands reigon. Lauren is pictured to the right of Tom in the first picture below.
