“I can’t afford the pay drop!” Is a classic sentence we hear when someone is considering an apprenticeship – but why? The apprentice minimum wage has always been on the lower side, although, as we see an increase in higher level apprentices, is this a main factor that could be putting people off from learning more?<\/p>\n
The national apprentice minimum wage, which is set by the UK government, was recently increased to \u00a35.28 per hour for apprentices under the age of 19 or in their first year of an apprenticeship. While this rate may seem low, it is important to note that many apprentices in the UK earn significantly more than this, especially as they progress through their apprenticeship.<\/span><\/p>\n Despite this, the minimum wage can still be off-putting to some people who may be considering an apprenticeship. This is because the minimum wage may create the impression that apprenticeships are poorly paid, low-skilled jobs when in reality they are often highly skilled positions that offer significant opportunities for career development and progression.<\/span><\/p>\n
