It’s finally here…
The Level 7 Senior People Professional Apprenticeship is live, ready for delivery and applications are open. Thanks to the dedicated and hard work of the Trailblazer Employer Group (TEG) we now have a career pathway in apprenticeships for the people profession. The Level 3 and Level 5 Standards available in both HR and L&D have been joined by a combined L7 Apprenticeship which also incorporates a specialism in Organisational Development (OD).
We’ve got a brilliant programme lined up but quite a stringent application process as it’s important that anyone starting the Standard is ready for L7 and really understands the commitment they are making. It’s crucial too that they get the full support of their employer with opportunities to develop at that senior level.
So who are the senior people professionals?
Senior People Professionals (SPP) are the in-house experts in people, work and change. They champion the people agenda to create working environments and cultures that help get the best out of people, delivering great organisational outcomes. Senior People Professionals tend to specialise in either HR, L&D or OD.
Who is the Senior People Professional Apprenticeship designed for?
It’s designed for those who want to develop into the SPP role and will be supported by their employer to do so. So it would suit individuals currently working at an operational level who want to move into a more senior management or strategic role; individuals who have completed their L5 Apprenticeship in HR or L&D and are ready to move on; individuals who perhaps are working in a management role but not within HR/L&D; or indeed as part of a fast track graduate programme.
What does the Senior People Professional Apprenticeship contain?
The SPP standard contains the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to successfully perform the SPP role i.e. to have occupational competence as a SPP. It takes a core and options approach. All apprentices will complete the core and must select the one most appropriate option to their role from HR, L&D and OD.
How will it be assessed?
For the SPP the End Point Assessment (EPA) will comprise two elements –
- Professional discussion, underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
- Project proposal, presentation and questioning
We’re pleased that the CIPD have been the first End Point Assessment organisation to agree in principle to assess the SPP Standard.
What do apprentices get at the end?
Apprentices who pass the EPA will receive their certificate from the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education and be eligible for Chartered Membership of the CIPD.
What about a separate CIPD Qualification?
Although this apprenticeship does NOT have a mandatory requirement for a CIPD qualification, we are offering either the Advanced Diploma in Strategic People Management or Advanced Diploma in Learning and Development (including a unit on Organisational Design and Development), as part of our delivery.
How does someone apply?
Our application process runs throughout the year, starts online and completes with an interview with one of our programme’s lead trainers. If successful apprentices will be accepted, formally enrolled and scheduled onto the next available cohort.
