It was National Apprenticeship Week!
National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) brings together businesses and apprentices across the country to shine a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
Celebrating the theme of “Build The Future” we will be reflecting on how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career, and businesses to develop a talented workforce that is equipped with future-ready skills.
We’ve produce our first 30-minute filmed Podcast which went LIVE on our YouTube channel on Monday, 7th February 2022. We talk all things apprenticeships! Including topics such as:
- Is there an embarrassment attached with being an “older” apprentice?
- The “Functional Skills” scare within apprenticeships.
- Employers: why don’t they want apprentices?

5 Years at Crosby!
Kevin Langtree, celebrated his fifth year with us in December. Throughout his time he’s been fundamental in teaching the butchers of the future. Kev’s favourite part of the job is hands down the practical teaching! Did you know he’s even cooked with Gordon Ramsay?
Chris Riley, will be celebrating his fifth year this quarter in March. During the pandemic it was with Chris’s quick-thinking and innovative ideas that EPA’s for the Butchery Apprenticeships standards could continue remotely throughout the pandemic. The most rewarding part of the job for Chris is seeing his apprentices succeed onto stronger roles in their careers.
Can you help us reach 1000 followers on our Butchery Instagram? We’re so close! @crosbybutchery

Education & Learning Support
AGHHHH! did someone say “English and Maths?”
English and Maths can seem scary. Whether its been years since you last sat an exam, or it was far from your favourite subject at school. However, having them is a requirement when completing your apprenticeship.
Our highly experience and certified trainers are here to help you. They’ve collectively taught hundreds of leaners and seen them go on to achieve fantastic results in their apprenticeships.
Functional Skills aren’t GSCEs, although they hold the equivalent value. Functional Skills were designed to create transferable English, Maths and ICT skills that we implement in our daily lives. Most people need these skills in their work and personal lives daily. So you’re probably a lot further along than you think you are!
Whether you need them or not…
Our team of Functional Skills trainers will be hosting a mini session once a month on a range of topics.
Whether it’s perfecting meeting minutes, or giving constructive feedback with meaning – we’re here to help.
The short, snappy, mid-day lessons will fit perfectly to listen to whilst having your lunch – why not give one a try?
When are they happening? Click HERE to find out.
Crosby’s career focus in 2022…
“The average person has 12 jobs in their lifetime.”
Along with implementing a careers section to our learner area, we have also designated our highly experienced ELS trainer, Amandeep, as Careers Co-ordinator. Aman will be responsible for ensuring that all apprentices/learners are equipped with support, advice and guidance when planning their career journey throughout their apprenticeship, this is also available to learners who are studying stand-alone qualifications.
