The impact have Covid-19 has been difficult on lots of apprentices journeys, especially our Aviation apprentices, with lots being made redundant, put on furlough or found it difficult to sustain their jobs in the industry.
Tom Frankland, a Level 3 Aviation Ground Specialist, working within the operations control centre at Jet2, is an exceptional example of how to overcome the challenges through lockdown and come back to learning after a long pause, and then going on to achieve a Merit in his apprenticeship End Point Assessment.
During the pandemic Tom had to temporarily move from OCC to the flight planning and ATC team, he embraced this as an additional opportunity to gain more experience in the industry.
Tom’s manager, Matt Firth, said:
…”Technical knowledge is only part of what is required to successfully complete an apprenticeship. The must be combined with the right attitude and behaviours. Tom’s positive “can do” attitude, enthusiasm, desire to learn, ability to work in a team and adapt to ever changing environments, amongst others, has significantly contributed to his success with these also being the key qualities required in the role and career in which Tom now continues”…
Tom continues to go on with Jet2 in the role of Operations Coordinator, helping control and coordinate their biggest ever flying program, taking VIP customers on their holidays.
Matt continued in a heartfelt thank you message to Gemma saying:
…”I just wanted to say thank you for everything you’ve done and for all the support you’ve given us and Tom over the past few years. Combined with the other challenges we’ve faced over the past couple of years, it’s certainly been eventful but you’ve really made it so much easier for us to navigate our way through everything. Paul, Marc & I have been juggling a lot of balls and spinning a lot of plates over the past few years however, it’s really given us peace of mind knowing that you’ve been quietly in the background ensuring that the apprenticeship and Tom have continuing to progress towards success and to meet our desired timeline and the busy summer that’s now ahead of us – Thank you!”…
Well done Tom on your excellent apprenticeship achievement and of course to our Head of Aviation, Gemma, in your role to help Tom to where his is today.
